About Us

Finding Inspiration in Every Turn

JuneBrain, Inc. specializes in developing optical coherence tomography (OCT) systems that expand the reach of neurology and ophthalmology into rural and underserved communities around the world.

Our Mission

Our mission begins in the multiple sclerosis (MS) community and, later, the age-related macular degeneration (AMD) community with hardware and AI software solutions to support disease research. This includes providing a way to objectively and quantitatively evaluate MS disease progression using retinal image data.

Within the United States sits about 15 million patients suffering from the effects of multiple sclerosis and/or age-related macular degeneration. Though the diagnosis is reported, it is often captured within the late stages of disease progression due to either sparse retinal imaging, lack of communication between neurology and ophthalmology specialists, or the theoretical disconnect between the use of OCT imaging in neurology practices all together. Thus, JuneBrain aims to address this gap and offer a network of solutions built with the end goal in mind: bettering the quality of patient care, while increasing patient engagement without burdening the clinical team.

Our Vision

JuneBrain's network of tele-health device and AI software products are intentionally designed to work together and optimize remote assessment and monitoring of neurological diseases. Approximately, 1.3 billion individuals worldwide suffer from conditions like multiple sclerosis, the progression of which can be informed by measures of retina layer thickness. Our goal is to improve accessibility to healthcare by expanding retinal imaging technology to vulnerable and underserved communities. We aim to provide remote OCT monitoring to ophthalmic/maybe eye sounds better/ and neurology clinics, as well as nontraditional point of care centers like pharmacies, nursing homes, and rehabilitation centers.

By developing a wearable, remote eye-scanning device + A.I. driven SaaS platform + HIPPA compliant web-based portal system, JuneBrain has fixated its vision on detecting changes in disease activity early and often. Through our technology, we are able to and allows clinicians to remotely track disease flare-ups and patient responses to treatment between clinical visits. Our early success was made possible through our experienced team of biomedical engineers, software developers, neurologists, and ophthalmologists; along with our working collaboration with Johns Hopkins University and the University of Maryland Baltimore.

Our Story

When Dr. Scott was diagnosed with myasthenia gravis, a chronic neurological disorder, she found an immediate flaw in our healthcare system: her neurologist only had the bandwidth to see her once a year. As a result, she was left on her own to understand how her disease was changing and communicate those changes to her doctor.

This common clinical practice places a great burden on patients to monitor their own diseases but provides clinicians with only subjective information. She founded JuneBrain in response to this challenge, which is shared by a diversity of individuals living with eye and brain disease, including multiple sclerosis and macular degeneration.

This challenge, combined with Dr. Scott’s passion for brain and eye research and developing technologies that help patients and those that care for them, was the inspiration for her founding JuneBrain.
